The Cathedral. It costs money to go inside, so we didn't do that, but it was still very impressive from the outside.

There are "wild" parrots in Sevilla! After quite a bit of study, we determined that they are Indian Ringnecks. They seem to be concentrated in the tallest trees in Maria Luisa Park.

Sevilla's white pigeons are very well known, and people go to the Plaza de America to feed them.

We're scratching our heads on the last picture. When we used bicycles almost exclusively, we wouldn't have left a lock for a handy bike lock-up because we'd likely need it for the chain that was still with the bike.
ReplyDeleteSo we're left wondering if this is some cultural ritual not unlike leaving old boots on fence posts down by Oglala (sp), NE? Cindy
Cindy,
ReplyDeleteDoes it help if I mention that most of the locks have something written on them, such as "T loves J"?
No, that clue doesn't help at all, and I'm thinking dreadful things: Does this practice commemorate a binding commitment to a bridge jumper? I'm hoping it's something more benign like the lock of marriage that bridges two people. (??)
ReplyDeletems. dsk: Okay, here's what I came up with (admittedly without actually asking anybody about the bridge):
ReplyDeleteA lock seems to me to be a FAIRLY natural symbol of love. And the bridge, being hundreds of years old, might logically be relied upon to exist for several more. Therefore, one can somewhat permanently commemorate one's love by attaching a lock to the bridge. Maybe?
